If you desire a fun-to-drive and affordable crossover SUV, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more appealing choice than the 2017 Mazda CX-5, with its sleek design, excellent performance, interior comfort and refinement and wide array of high-tech features. The editors at Digital Trends agree, for they recently gave the new CX-5 their annual Best SUV/CUV of the Year award.

Why did the 2017 Mazda CX-5 win the Best SUV/CUV of the Year award?

For the annual Digital Trends Car Awards, the magazine recognizes the top new automobiles introduced each year. In deciding the winners, the editors at Digital Trends gauge the technological advancement of the vehicles, as well as overall design for consumer experience. Despite having a much lower price, the CX-5 beat out two premium competitors: the Bentley Bentayga and Jaguar F-PACE. Digital Trends cited the CX-5’s impressive handling, fun-to-drive nature, exterior design and utility in giving it the SUV/CUV of the Year award.

2017 Mazda CX-5 and IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Rating

In addition to the Digital Trends Best SUV/CUV of the Year award, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 was also recognized as a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It’s the highest safety honor that the nonprofit organization gives to vehicles. Along with the CX-5, all of the other Mazda vehicles tested by the IIHS were also Top Safety Pick+ winners, when equipped with adaptive LED headlights and automatic emergency braking. The 2017 CX-5 comes standard with both of these safety features.
