What Can I Do With the Leaves in my Yard?
By Product Expert | Posted in Local Events & Activities on Thursday, October 18th, 2018 at 2:08 pmFall is a great time of year if you live in a place full of foliage. Watching the leaves change color is a beautiful sight and that light chill of the fall air means it’s finally time for hot chocolate and roasting chestnuts. Autumn also has two of the best holidays in Halloween and Thanksgiving, it’s just an all-around great season.
That season is soured a bit when those beautiful leaves start to fall and litter your yard. The magic wears off when you trudge outside to start raking them all up or blowing them off your lawn. All those leaves have to be good for something though, other than having a big fluffy pile of leaves to dive into, but what use could you make of those leaves?
What to do with Fall Leaves?
So you’ve busted out the rake and gone through your lawn for a few hours to end up with a pile of leaves. Now what? Well, if you’re of the gardening variety or at the very least have some perennials in your yard that you’d like to protect a good collection of leaves can offer some great benefits. A layer of leaves can provide a good protective mulch for some plants and help them better live through the winter. Mixed with some grass clippings your leaves can also be made into a cheap and effective mulch.
If you have some storage space you can also let the leaves sit for a while and grow leaf mold which turns it into a high-quality compost material. You can also store some vegetables between layers of leaves or save them up for crafting ideas. The easiest solution is if you just go over them a few times to break them up and leave them as some natural food for your lawn.
