Mazda Motor Corporation recently showed off the new 2017 Mazda CX-5 and has started production. Sales of the vehicle will start as soon as February in Japan, while Mazda is shooting for a North American release date in the second half of 2017. The release date for the rest of the world is still unknown. The slogan for the development of the 2017 Mazda CX-5 was “an SUV all customers will enjoy,” and has a focus on passenger comfort and an enjoyable ride feel. So, what’s new in the 2017 Mazda CX-5?
What is different in the 2017 Mazda CX-5 from the 2016 model?
Mazda completely redesigned the 2017 Mazda CX-5 in an attempt to refine every element of the SUV to add to driving pleasure. The biggest change in this year’s model is the exterior design of the 2017 Mazda CX-5. Mazda used the term “refined toughness” as a reference to push their KODO concept to the next level when designing the CX-5. They took inspiration from traditional Japanese crafts and strived for an aesthetic free of non-essential elements, resulting in a bolder and more athletic design. This new design gives the 2017 CX-5 a lower center of gravity, with a 10mm wider front and rear tread giving the CX-5 a more powerful stance while gripping the road.

To compliment the new design, Mazda took a new approach with their painting process as well. One of the biggest goals of the Mazda CX-5 was to create a color scheme that complimented every aspect of the vehicle. Using their three-layer paint process, the new colors pop with more depth, richness and luster.
Has the Engine Changed on the 2017 Mazda CX-5?
While the 2016 Mazda CX-5 had SKYACTIV®-G 2.0 and 2.5 gasoline engines, new to the Mazda CX-5 is the SKYACTIV®-D 2.2 diesel engine. This will be Mazda’s first diesel engine model in North America. The new CX-5 also introduces G-Vectoring Control (GVC), the first technology in the new SKYACTIV®-VEHICLE DYNAMICS series. GVC forces and optimizes the vertical load on each wheel and helps reduce sideways sliding of the cabin occupants’ bodies to help ensure a comfortable ride.
