Mazda Shows its Safety Chops with IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Ratings

The Insurance Institute for Highway (IIHS) confirmed this when they recently announced that all 2017 Mazda models that they tested earned their coveted To Safety Pick+ rating. Mazda is the only full-line automaker to achieve this remarkable accomplishment.
How Mazda Vehicles Earned 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Rating
To earn the 2017 Top Safety Pick+ Rating, Mazda’s vehicles underwent five different crash tests. This includes moderate and small overlap frontal crashes, a side crash, a roof strength test and a head restraint and seat test that simulates a rear impact. Also, headlight performance and frontal crash prevention by means of auto-braking and forward collision warning systems were evaluated. To attain “Top Safety Pick+” honors, Mazda’s vehicles passed the requirements for the highest rating of “Good” for 2017 in five crashworthiness tests, as well as an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for front crash prevention and an “Acceptable” or “Good” headlight rating.

2017 Mazda CX-5 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Rating
A noteworthy recipient of the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating is the 2017 Mazda CX-5, which marks the fifth consecutive year that the crossover has earned the award. This can be credited in part to the CX-5’s available Smart City Brake Support and the effectiveness of its standard LED headlights. In additional to the CX-5, Mazda models tested for 2017 were the Mazda CX-9, Mazda CX-3, Mazda3 and Mazda6. Each received the Institute’s highest Top Safety Pick+ rating when equipped with optional front crash prevention and adaptive LED headlights.
