OVERVIEW |
2007 Mazda6 Wagon
Traditionally, there’s been a distinct disconnect between the words “Wagon” and “Performance”. No more. Meet the Mazda6 Sport Wagon – a thoroughly refreshing approach to performance with practicality. Satisfying the first half of that equation is a 212-hp V6 mated with a 5-speed close-ratio stick, or an available 6-speed Sport mode automatic transmission, plus a fully independent, sport-tuned suspension. Completing it, is a cargo bay that’s downright cavernous. All in all, this vehicle is an ideal blend of fun and function – which is why it was named Best New Station Wagon in 2005 by AJAC. That’s what happens when a practical wagon dares to think outside the box. |

Exterior |
Confidence looks good on you!
The sporty elegance of the Mazda6 Sport Wagon can immediately be seen at the front of the vehicle, with its racy five-point grille, the striking air intake openings in the front bumper spoiler and the elegantly thin clear headlamps.
Seen from the side, the car has an especially sporty appearance. The distinctive swage line forms a transition from the powerful lower body design to the delicately-formed upper body.
The Mazda6 Sport Wagon’s bold and athletic stance announces its true sports car personality and instantly conveys the “Zoom-Zoom” spirit, while its updated front styling stands out from its more ordinary midsize competitors.
|
| Distinctive Design |
The exterior design of the Mazda6 Sport Wagon shows a close affinity with its sedan and 5-door siblings.
Despite the fact that the Wagon is 25 mm longer than the Sedan and Sport versions, the soft fall of the extended roof line, combined with a blackened B-pillar, lends the Mazda6 Sport Wagon a highly elegant and dynamic appearance. The rear end of the car is dominated, as in the other models, by the rear lamps. These are similar in design to the front headlamps and wrap around into the side body and form a visual link between the trunk trim panel and the rear side paneling. |

| Body |
World-class quality and manufacturing precision
Mazda engineers have raised the bar of craftsmanship for the demanding expectations of today's midsize vehicle customer. This is what lies behind Mazda6 Sport Wagon's superior quality, fit and finish.
Ultra-precise body assembly has resulted in tighter gaps between key body panels, such as between the headlamp unit and the front bumper edge and the rear fender and the rear bumper, enhancing Mazda6 Sport Wagon's exterior appearance with its precise finish. |

Interior |
Fresh and spacious interior design
The Mazda6 Sport Wagon’s passenger compartment has been designed in typical Mazda6 fashion. The stylish cockpit, with its large, dial-type speedometer and tachometer and centre console gives just as dynamic an impression as the outer design.
The luggage compartment is also well equipped to handle cornering. To prevent luggage or other articles from sliding around in the trunk, the Mazda6 Sport Wagon comes with eight integrated hooks, to which cargo of all sizes can easily be secured. Despite its sporty appearance, this vehicle is not one of those “lifestyle” wagons that has a hatchback but little load space. The Mazda6 Sport Wagon offers luggage capacity of 959 litres plus outstanding versatility due to the Karakuri seat-folding system. This provides a level load floor that is 1906 mm long and 1365 mm wide, with over a metre of load space between the wheel wells. Loaded to the roof, the Mazda6 Sport Wagon has a volume of 1712 litres. |

“Emotion in Motion": Superior functionality and sporty elegance
To bring the "Emotion in Motion" design philosophy to a contemporary interior design, the design team looked at instrument panel innovations on vehicles dating back as far as 100 years ago.
This research generated a huge amount of data that allowed Mazda designers to give the Mazda6 Sport Wagon a supremely functional layout, offering the driver extremely easy-to-read, easy-to-operate controls and switches, allied with Mazda's traditional fun-to-drive taste.
Mazda6 Sport Wagon designers took ergonomic design one step further, carrying out extensive research programs to discover customer preferences. This valuable information allowed them to further improve and optimize the usability of Mazda6 Sport Wagon controls according to real drivers, creating an unprecedented human-machine harmony.

|
| Comfort |
Roominess with easy-to-use functionality
Interior spaciousness, combined with high-quality materials, create a luxurious ambience. The seats are firm and comfortable on long trips and drivers who exploit the dynamic qualities of the Mazda6 Sport Wagon will appreciate the strong side support of the seat cushion and seatback, which give plenty of lateral support during hard cornering. To ensure driver comfort, there are an extended range of seat adjustments and the steering wheel can be adjusted for both tilt and telescope.
Visually, the interior is identical to that of the sedan. It has a spacious yet sporty cockpit with quality trims and fabrics.
The interior concept of the Mazda6 Sport Wagon combines roominess with easy-to-use functionality and high levels of quality feel. The Mazda6 Sport Wagon contains lots of room, comfortable seats with good side support, easy-to-read instruments and an ergonomically optimized and very intuitive driver environment.
A Karakuri seat system comes standard for the Mazda6 Sport Wagon. With this system – named after Japanese Karakuri folding dolls – a single touch on a handle in the luggage area causes the rear seat cushions to sink into the floor while the seatbacks fold forward to create an entirely flat load floor. There’s no running to the passenger door to pull the rear seat down, and no need to remove the headrests. Simply opening the tailgate and pulling on the handle makes the rear seat disappear into a flat, wide load extension. What’s more, the rear seats are a 60-40 split, separate-folding type, allowing the accommodation of longer items like skis without sacrificing the entire rear seating section. |
|
| Instrument Panel |
Wide chrome mouldings encircle all meters of the driver instrument cluster, and the centre instrument panel has a dark titanium surface colour. This elegant décor is repeated on the surface of the middle tunnel, as moulding for the dashboard fascia, the armrests of the door trim and door handles. The shift lever and shift console of the automatic transmission are in the same metallic-look as the air conditioning control knobs.
A silver-look moulding frames the centre instrument panel and drops down as low as the middle tunnel, and contrasts nicely with the dark panel colour and the surface of the radio, which is in piano black. |

Performance |
All systems go
Besides a dedication to driving pleasure, the Mazda6 Sport Wagon has a dazzling array of advanced engineering features. Starting with a potent 212-hp V6 featuring all-aluminum construction and variable-valve timing to maximize low-end torque and high-rpm power. A double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension provide confident, surefooted handling. At all four wheels are power-assisted disc brakes that promote linear, fade-resistant stops. And up front, speed-sensing, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering offers precise control and excellent on-centre feel. All of which explain why every Mazda6 Sport Wagon delivers all-around exhilaration behind the wheel.
|
| Engine |
|
With its 3.0L engine, the Mazda6 Sport Wagon is responsive, smooth-running and offers excellent fuel economy.
The 3.0L DOHC 24 valve V6 engine has a maximum power output of 212 hp and 197 lb/ft of torque. It has been optimized for low-friction efficiency and high power and torque output. In addition it has been designed to meet the Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle requirements (ULEV gasoline engine). |
| Transmission |
|
Mazda6 Sport Wagon provides a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. Each transmission has been optimized for responsive driving dynamics, refined character and ease of operation.
Mazda engineers developed a transmission specifically to take into account the sporty character of the new Mazda6 engine range. The standard five-speed transmission has been double synchronized in the first two gears, which allows for especially fast and precise gear shifting. Furthermore, the optimal position of the gear shift, short gear travel and an exactly defined shift gate, make changing gears quick and smooth.
The optional automatic six-speed Sport mode transmission has been designed specifically to leverage the power of the 3.0 L V6 engine. The six gears contribute to improved fuel economy and acceleration performance. Greater flexibility of shift schedule mapping (due to more available ratios) allows better optimization for various normal driving situations, such as maintaining speed using cruise control or making torque available for freeway passing. Shifting is responsive with less downshift delay for better acceleration feel. With the 6-speed Sport mode automatic transmission, the car is smoother, quicker, more responsive, and quieter (due to lower average engine rpm in normal driving) and achieves better fuel economy.
|
| Suspension |
|
At the front, the Mazda6 Sport Wagon features a high-mounted, double-wishbone with MacPherson strut suspension. The upper wishbone is built from pressed steel while the lower wishbone features two forged-steel arms. A long suspension travel ensures optimal tire-to-road contact and feedback from road surface for superior grip and controllability. Low-friction ball joints in the suspension arms, and reduced friction loss in the dampers, contribute to improved linear steering response, while built-in rebound spring dampers and a large-diameter stabilizer bar contribute to improved roll motion and roll stiffness.
The rear suspension is a patented E-Type multi-link rear suspension that, like the front suspension, keeps the wheel travel straight up and down to maintain the perfect contact patch throughout the suspension travel. The system also uses low-profile coil springs that sit very low and fit under the cargo floor, providing a flat load floor in the trunk with more cargo capacity. High-strength steel keeps the shock absorber from flexing, and also reinforced the lower- and upper-mounting points. The suspension easily absorbs and damps bumps and dips in the road for a more comfortable ride. |
| Brakes |
|
Class-leading brake performance
The Mazda6 Sport Wagon comes equipped with power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes engineered to deliver best-in-class braking. The front brakes are vented, which means they dissipate heat quickly and offer superior stopping power.
The Mazda6 Sport Wagon’s four-wheel independent suspension, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with EBFD and Traction Control System (TCS) help promote stable handling in emergency situations. EBFD works by measuring braking force versus traction and allocating brake force to wheels that have the best grip for stopping before the ABS system activates. This advanced system helps to reduce the braking distance by using the precise level of brake modulation for confident stopping and optimum occupant comfort. |
| Safety |
World-class safety standards
Strong, solid and smart, the Mazda6 uses world-class technology to protect you and your precious cargo. The Mazda6 has been engineered to meet or exceed crash safety standards in all major world markets.
The unique triple-H architecture of the car offers special front "Crash Management", and advanced protection in the event of an accident, absorbing energy away from you and your passengers, and keeping the chassis from collapsing. We've even designed a Crashable Pedal assembly to protect the driver from pedal injuries. In frontal crash tests for driver and front-seat passenger conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)*, the Mazda6 earned Five Stars in 2005 and 2006 – the highest rating possible†.
Our dual front air bags, driver seat position and passenger-side weight sensors are standard on all models. As are dual front side air bags and side air curtains, giving extra head protection to you and your passengers in the event of a side impact.
The safety belt package of the Mazda6 includes front seatbelts with pretensioners and load-limiting retractors, and three-point seatbelts for all three rear seating positions. For your child's safety, standard ISOFIX child seat anchor bars are fitted at the left and right-hand sides of the rear seat.
We don't just keep you safe! To protect your Mazda6 from theft, we've included an immobilizer system, with an anti-theft alarm system available on the GT models.

†Tests conducted in the U.S. on the 2005/2006 Mazda6 sedan and wagon. Highest rating possible for driver and front passenger frontal impact and rollover protection by the U.S. NHTSA. |
