The 2007 Subaru Forester offers two unique engines. The 2.5X and 2.5XS models are powered by a 173 hp, 2.5-litre SOHC SUBARU BOXER engine that delivers a broad range of power for quick acceleration and a good measure of fun. Meanwhile, using WRC championship-winning technologies, the 2.5XT offers a 224 hp 2.5-litre DOHC turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine. Both BOXER engines offer the dynamic response of a sports car and the tractability of a true SUV.

The Forester's ability to efficiently transmit engine power to the ground is what first-rate driving is all about. Its AWD transmission, front differential and transfer case are combined together into one simple unit mounted symmetrically along the centreline of the vehicle. This compact design allows for linear, controllable, full-time power to be delivered to all four wheels simultaneously - in the most efficient manner possible. The end result: optimum traction and control.

The 5-speed manual (5MT) is built to appease both sporty and everyday driving with its viscous coupling limited centre differential that maintains a 50/50 (front /rear) torque split for maximum traction and vehicle stability.

The 4-speed electronic direct control automatic transmission (4EAT) suits everyday driving with smooth shifting, excellent response and impressive fuel efficiency. Its multi-plate transfer clutch splits torque distribution 60/40 (front/rear) in most conditions for more predictable handling. In poor driving conditions or under hard acceleration, the MPT can vary the torque split up to 50/50 for maximum traction and stability.
